How does GDPR affect marketing emails?

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) laws changed a lot of things around permission on the internet, especially for marketers. The starting point for all email marketers begins with the collection of user’s emails. Now, to do so, they must comply with GDPR rules for all EU countries.  

As per Article 32 of the GDPR law, a user must give her free, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent to the party asking for information like email IDs.  

There are three easy ways through which email marketers can comply with the GDPR laws: 

  1. Ask for explicit opt-in permission from the user while email collection (soft opt-ins and soft opt-outs are not permitted in the law).
  2. Provide a mechanism through which a user can remove their personal information at will.
  3. Keep a proof of the consent trail in a storing system.

These are some of the basic rules that email marketers will have to adhere to for marketing via emails. Failing to comply with these GDPR laws can result in huge fines for companies.
